In a world where food choices have an increasingly significant impact on health, the environment and animal welfare, REFOOD is born, an innovative and ambitious project that aims to transform the public narrative and guide Italy towards a more sustainable and compassionate food future.

The REFOOD Manifesto

REFOOD is founded on a series of guiding principles, each of which represents a pillar of our mission:

  • REshape: Transforming the public narrative for plant-based eating, advancing a more sustainable and compassionate future.
  • REdesign: We rethink consumer practices to inspire ethical and responsible choices, geared towards everyone’s well-being.
  • REstore: Rebuilding consumer trust in science by countering misinformation and fostering an evidence-based culture.
  • REcenter: We bring individual choices back to the center to fight discrimination and overcome social obstacles.
  • REgenerate: We revitalize local supply chains, raising consumer awareness towards sustainable and conscious food choices.
  • REnew: We are committed to renew the nutritional guidelines for public canteens, making them more ethical and sustainable.
  • REfresh: We refresh the relationship between consumers, local communities and producers, promoting collaboration and mutual respect.
  • REnovate: We modernise the legislative framework to ensure regulations keep pace with global changes and local needs.
  • REport: We denounce and legally challenge all forms of discrimination, to build a more equal and inclusive society.
  • REbuild: Let’s rebuild the food system, placing sustainability, equity and respect for all life at its core.

Our goal: to promote plant-based eating and fight discrimination

REFOOD’s primary goal is to dismantle misconceptions about plant-based nutrition and alternative proteins, eliminating stigmas and barriers for those who want to adopt (or move toward) a 100% plant-based diet. We firmly believe that education and awareness are the keys to making plant-based options the default choice in public and private catering.

A legal and political commitment for change

We are committed to fighting against all forms of discrimination against vegetarians and vegans, especially in canteens, but also in fiscal policies (such as VAT on plant-based milk) and in everyday consumption contexts. REFOOD does not limit itself to raising awareness, but also engages in legal actions to guarantee access to quality plant-based nutrition, both in the public and private sectors, and to promote advocacy campaigns that can positively influence public policies, drawing inspiration from the most advanced models in Europe.

An approach based on facts and inclusivity

In a context where meat lobbies exert strong media pressure, REFOOD stands out for its approach based on scientific studies and rational thinking. While clearly supporting plant-based nutrition, our communication remains journalistic and based on facts. We believe that transparent and evidence-based information is the most effective weapon to debunk myths and correct misinformation.

Our inclusive approach aims to engage a broad and diverse audience, even those who may be skeptical. We are committed to creating a space for open and critical discussion, always supported by verifiable facts and hard evidence.
